About Making Cents International

Making Cents International is a dynamic, small social enterprise that has been increasing economic opportunities in developing countries for more than twelve years. We are known as a source of high quality technical services, and a thought leader in the economic growth arena. Our training, technical assistance, and knowledge management activities consistently improve the ability of target populations—especially youth, women, smallholder farmers and vulnerable populations—to begin and grow businesses, participate in profitable value chains, access finance, and obtain meaningful work. Our services are based on an appreciation of client assets and market needs, local capacity building, and a desire to achieve greater sustainable results. Our success is grounded on core competencies that focus on innovation, quality, teamwork, communication, leadership, and knowledge management.

Making Cents is based in Washington, D.C. and currently has a network of associates and consultants around the world. We have provided specialized technical assistance and curricula in over 50 countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East.

Our Vision

Making Cents International envisions thriving economies where all individuals fulfill their potential to work, innovate, and influence the global marketplace.

Our Mission

Making Cents International seeks to improve economic opportunities with a particular focus on youth, women, and vulnerable populations. Our products and services enable entrepreneurs and enterprises to participate in profitable markets; financial institutions to serve new populations; and individuals to obtain meaningful work. We advance the economic development field by evaluating our activities, disseminating results, and creating learning opportunities for practitioners and policymakers alike.

Building and Strengthening Youth Economic Opportunities

Making Cents International is taking a leadership role in the youth economic opportunities sector by creating learning opportunities and networks, which result in stronger partnerships, programs, and policies that support young entrepreneurs. Since 2007, Making Cents has organized an annual Global Youth Economic Opportunities Conference in Washington, DC. This demand-driven and participatory learning event has focused on building and strengthening the youth economic opportunities field and has become the "must attend" global learning event.

The 2011 Conference convened more than 400 leaders from 60 countries who are working to increase and improve economic opportunities for young people, and culminates into the development of the "State of the Field in Youth Economic Opportunities" publication, which analyzes and synthesizes the information shared at the global learning event.
